The REX entered last night looking to turn the tide against the Danville Dans. The REX are chasing the Dans for second place in the Wabash River Division and they desperately need to split or win the current seven game series. Wabash Valley's Own were 3.5 games behind Danville going into last night's matchup.
The REX jumped in front of the Dans quickly when center fielder Tyler Nelson crossed home plate on a single by catcher Dylan Janke. Then the Dans took over. They scored eight unanswered over the next three innings. The REX started to chip away in the sixth when left fielder Alec Brunson scored on an RBI double by first baseman Nate Wolf. The seventh inning led to a barrage of runs for the REX. Third baseman Colter Couillard-Rodak scored on a single by shortstop and Terre Haute native Kaleb Hannahs. Nelson would cross home plate again, but this time on a single by Wolf. Then, Janke knocked in Hannahs on a double. Wolf and Janke would both score on consecutive bases loaded walks earned by right fielder Nick Barrett and second baseman Connor VanLannen. After seven innings, the REX were able to cut the lead to 8-7.
In the bottom of the eighth with one out, Hannahs hit a triple. Then, Danville intentionally walked Wolf to put the go ahead run on first. Danville would regret that decision as Janke hit a two RBI double to give the good guys a 9-8 lead. Unfortunately, the Dans would score five runs in the ninth inning and were able to walk away with a 13-9 victory. The REX fell to 7-12 on the second half of the season.
Wabash Valley's Own play the Dans again tonight at Danville Stadium at 7:30 PM EST.
