As the player spotlight continues, we are going to focus on another local pitcher! Luke Lancaster is a twenty year old, 6’2” and 220 pound right-handed pitcher from Brazil, IN. He attended Northview High School and played for the Northview Knights. Lancaster is currently a sophomore at Vincennes University. During his time at Northview High School he pitched a no-hitter against West Vigo High School.
He was a part of the Knight’s 2016 IHSAA Class 3A Championship season. This was the first time that any athletic team from Northview High School had ever won a State Championship. When talking about this accomplishment Lancaster said, “Winning a state championship in high school was one of the greatest moments I will ever have in baseball, and I think winning something like that gives you a hunger to win more at different levels.”
In his freshman season at Vincennes University he appeared in eighteen games with a record of four wins and three losses with one save. In those eighteen games the hurler pitched 29.1 innings, had thirty-nine strikeouts (K), seven base on balls (BB), and an earned run average (ERA) of 3.68 per http://njcaa.org.
During his sophomore season Lancaster has started seeing a little more time, appearing in twenty-five games. In three of those games he was the starting pitcher. He has a record of six wins and four losses with one save, and a 3.75 ERA. He has pitched 57.1 innings, with seventy-one K’s and nineteen BBs per http://njcaa.org.
Former REX Baseball 1st Baseman Jacob Harden was a teammate of Lancaster’s at Northview High School and had this to say about him, “Luke was a guy who brought a lot of energy day in and day out. He’s always a positive presence in the dugout. He is a workhorse; the REX got a good one.” Lancaster looks forward to being a part of the REX. He says this about joining Wabash Valley’s Own, “Growing up a town over from Terre Haute makes you idolize some of the great players that the REX have had and getting a chance to represent my area in a way like this is really something special.”
So far in this season with the REX, Lancaster had made two appearances. He has pitched 3 innings while giving up 2 hit. As of June 4, 2019 he has a 3.00 ERA.
REX Baseball is also excited for Lancaster to have a chance to represent his area! We are looking forward to seeing him pitch some gems this summer! Go REXNation!
