As we come out of the All-Star break I thought it would be best for us to focus on a #REXNation East All-Star for the next player spotlight. This week we are going to turn our attention to infielder Jacob Mulcahy.
The Hederson, Kentucky native attended high school at Owensboro Catholic. Mulcahy is the son of Rob and Donna Mulcahy. He is currently a sophomore at Bellarmine University where he majors in Economics.
In his freshman season at Bellarmine, Mulcahy started in twenty-eight games that he appeared. In the 2018 season, he had an AVG of .290. Along with that AVG, he was able to send two balls out of the park while also swatting seven doubles. In the twenty-eight games he appeared he had nineteen RBIs and twenty runs scored per athletics.bellarmine.edu. He reached base on balls eleven times and had an OB% of .371 In terms of defense Mulcahy did not commit an error the entire season at first base per athletics.bellarmine.edu.
The 2019 season was a big improvement for Mulcahy as he entered his sophomore season. He started and appeared in thirty-seven games for the Bellarmine Knights. In those thirty-seven games he had an AVG of .325 with an OB% of .394 per athletics.bellarmine.edu. He increased his doubles, triples, and home runs for the 2019 season as well. He took two eight times, he had one three-bagger, and went yard three times. He was walked sixteen times, had twenty-six RBIs, and crossed home plate thirty-one times. He ended the season with a FLD% of .888 per athletics.bellarmine.edu.
Obviously, Mulcahy is having a great season with the #REX being as he was named a Prospect League All-Star. Through the thirty-two games he has appeared in he has an AVG of .259, eight two-baggers, and three dingers. He has stolen a base four times and has been walked seventeen times. The sophomore has touched home twenty times while wearing a REX uniform.
We look forward to having a great rest of the season with Mulcahy leading the charge as the REX fight for a playoff spot! Come out to Bob Warn Field at 5:30 p.m. EST on Sunday, July 28, for Open Seating Sunday as the REX take on the Chillicothe Paints for the final time this season!
