Player Spotlight: New Pitcher Kaleb Huxford Comes Back to Wabash Valley Roots

For our next player spotlight we turn our attention back to the Wabash Valley to focus on one of the REX’s newest additions. This week we will be focusing on the Rockville, Indiana native Kaleb Huxford. He is a right handed pitcher that is currently a junior at Saint Leo University in Saint Leo, Florida. He transferred to Saint Leo University after spending his freshman and sophomore seasons at Lincoln Trail College in Illinois.

Huxford attended Rockville Junior-Senior High School in Rockville, Indiana. In his freshman year Huxford was named Rookie of the Year. In his sophomore season he was a part of the team that finished as state runner-up. As a junior, Huxford was named All-Conference and was a part of the first Rockville State Championship team! In his senior year he helped lead Rockville to a sectional title and was once again named All-Conference. While in high school he was also part of the Cross Country team that won the conference championship and he was named All-Conference in Cross Country per saintleolions.com.


Huxford had a productive season as a freshman with Lincoln Trail College. He made twelve total appearances all of which were efforts. He pitched 54.2 innings in those twelve appearances and had an ERA of 4.94 with a record of 4-1. He also struck out fifty-one batters and was named an Academic All-American.


As good a start as his freshman season was, Huxford had an even better sophomore season. He had ten appearances including two starts. In fifty-nine innings pitched Huxford had a record of 5-1 with an incredible ERA of only 1.53, which was the fourth best ERA in NJCAA Division I. He had seventy-nine strike-outs and only twenty-two walks. He allowed a mere ten runs and was named All-Conference and All-Region per saintleolions.com.

His junior season is when Huxford transferred to Saint Leo University. In his first season with the Lions Huxford made sixteen appearances. Four of these appearances were starts. Over 31.2 innings he had an ERA of 4.83 and a record of 1-0 with one save. He also had 33 strike-outs. In eleven of his appearances he allowed one run or less per saintleolions.com.

In his short time with the REX, Huxford has appeared and started in one game. In that game he pitched four innings with four strike-outs while allowing two runs. He currently has an ERA of 2.25.
