Player Spotlight: USI Infielder, Ethan Hunter, Brings a Consistent Swing to the REX

As we continue our Player Spotlight Series we turn our attention to Terre Haute, IN product, Ethan Hunter. Hunter is currently a sophomore infielder for the University of Southern Indiana Screaming Eagles and is the son of Jonathan and Michele Hunter. Before his college career, Hunter attended Terre Haute South High School.

During his time at Terre Haute South High School he was awarded two different honors. In one season he was named first team All-Conference. During that season he had a batting average (AVG) of .369, had three home runs, and twenty-nine runs batted in (RBIs). In 2016 he received first team All-State honors while he had an (AVG) of .368.


Hunter’s freshman season at the University of Southern Indiana was a great season. He appeared in fifty-six of fifty-nine games and fifty-four of those were starts. During that season he had an AVG of .279 with a slugging percentage (SLG%) of .416 and an on-base percentage (OB%) of .377. As a freshman, he had a team-high five triples. He also had seven doubles, three home runs, twenty-nine RBIs, and scored forty runs. During that first collegiate year he had fifteen multi-hit games, six multi-RBI games, a six game hitting streak, and a fielding percentage (FLD%) of .876 per www.gousieagles.com.

Currently in Hunter’s sophomore season he is having a better season than his freshman season. He has started in 48 games. He currently has an AVG of .314, a SLG% of .514, and an OB% of .408. His doubles, triples and home runs have all increased this season. He has nine two-baggers, seven three-base hits, and four dingers. In addition to his batting improvements he has improved his FLD%, raising it from .876 in his freshman year to .902 currently per www.gousieagles.com.

This will be Ethan Hunter’s first season with REX Baseball and we are excited to have him joining our infield. We look forward to Hunter showing off his hitting and fielding prowess in REX Blue.
