Last night, first baseman Rob Weissheier continued his Most Valuable Player Campaign as the REX took on the O’Fallon Hoots for the final time this season. The REX were looking to get back in the win column after a disappointing outing against the Chillicothe Paints. The Hoots were looking to extend their lead over the Cape Catfish in the Prairie Land Division.
The REX took the lead early when Weissheier crossed home plate on an RBI ground out by left fielder Alec Brunson. The Hoots tied it up at one in the top of the second with a run of their own. In the bottom of the third the REX took the lead back on a round tripper by Weissheier. This was his eleventh home run of the season. He is leading the Prospect League in home runs. He is currently third in the league in batting average (.429) and seventh in RBI (27).
Unfortunately, the rest of the game belonged to the Hoots. O’Fallon scored five unanswered and defeated Wabash Valley’s own by a score of 6-2. The REX are back on the road Wednesday, June 30, to take on the Illinois Valley Pistol Shrimp in a doubleheader starting at 5:30 PM EST.
